Old Baldy Cup - July 11, 12 and 13, 2013

Nineteen teams participated in the 12th Annual Old Baldy Cup July 11th through July 13th.  Thursday was practice round day.  Once their round of golf was finished everyone gathered at the Platte River Cook-Out Grounds for the traditional Thursday night cook-out where a table was available for Pari-Mutuel betting.

Friday the tournament began with a 9:00 Shotgun Start.  The optional team Shoot-Out was held at 2:30 Friday afternoon.

Two separate Shoot-Outs were held with the top two teams in each Shoot-Out coming together on the first hole to determine First through Fourth Place.  The Team of Schalk and Gallagher were repeat winners.

Saturday was the final round of competition and the weekend ended with a Cocktail Party and Awards Ceremony in the Eagle's Nest and tournament dinner that followed in the Club's Main Dining Room.  The team of Jason Campbell and his guests, Tony Baade, Dan DeMarque and Jeff Storey have their names engraved on the OBC Cup Trophy as the 2013 tournament winners.

Legacy Cup Golf Tournament

July 5th and 6th were the dates of this years Old Baldy Club Legacy Cup.  Sixteen teams of two competed in the event.  First round tee times began at 9:00 am on Friday with the Tournament Format a team Best Ball.  The Final Round on Saturday was a Shotgun Start at 8:30 am using a Modified Chapman Scotch Format.  The days score was added to the team score from Friday to determine winners.  Lunch was served in the Main Dining Room while Awards were presented.

Spring Invitational - June 23rd - 25th

Old Baldy Club's Spring Invitational was held June 23rd - June 25th.  Golfers were flighted according to age resulting in six flights.  This years tournament hosted 44 players with one-third of the field being members. Contestants played a practice round at their leisure on Sunday with tournament rounds on Monday and Tuesday.  After Tuesday's round Lunch and the Awards Ceremony were held in the Main Dining Room where everyone enjoyed Chef Angel's buffet lunch.  Members came away with many prizes in the tournament as you can see below.

Ladies "Ewe Tourn"

Old Baldy Club's premier ladies event, the "Ewe Tourn" was held June 19th through 21st.  Seventy-two ladies attended this years tournament with three fun filled days.  Ladies received a new pair of FootJoy shoes as their tee prize this year.  After the practice round on Wednesday, everyone attended a cocktail party and dinner at "Gretchen's House" in the OBC Village hosted by Laura Bucholz.  Pari-Mutuel betting was available to add some spice to the tournament.  Thursday's tournament round began at 9:00 am with a shotgun start. Angel and his staff had one of his wonderful buffet lunches waiting for them after the round.  At 2:30 an optional Team Shoot-Out was held.  Three separate Shoot-Outs were contested with the winning team from each of those Shoot-Outs coming together on the first hole to determine the top three teams.  Judi Newman and her guest, Yvette Keyser, were the 2013 Shoot-Out Winners.

Thursday evening everyone went to the Thursday night Platte River Cook-Out to end the day.  The final round began at 9:00 am Friday.  Friday night the ladies enjoyed dinner in the Main Dining Room after a Cocktail Party and Awards in the Eagle's Nest.

As always the Old Baldy Club ladies supported the tournament well bringing family and friends to experience OBC at it's best.!

Two Man Match Play

Old Baldy Club began it's 2013 Tournament Season with the Two Man Match Play on June 16th - 18th.  Sunday the teams played practice rounds at their leisure preparing for the next two days of the tournament.  Five nine hole matches were played over two days of competition.  Teams were flighted by handicap and two teams from each of those flights qualified for the Championship Shoot-Out to determine overall winners.  The Shoot-Out was contested on Holes #10, #11, #12 and #18.  Teams were eliminated each hole with Joe DiPonti and Chuck Fulton coming away winners on the 18th hole.  Dave Shadrick and Bill Ward were second while Kent Flury and Bill Foxley finished third.

Ewe Tourn - June 19-21, 2013

Invitations have been mailed for the 2013 "Ewe Tourn" Ladies Golf Tournament scheduled for Wednesday through Friday, June 19-21.  Again this year, the popular Two-Lady 36-Hole Best Ball Eclectic format will be used for the tournament.  Winners will be recognized by both Net and Gross scores in each flight.  Member-Member, Member-Guest and Invited Guest-Guest twosomes are acceptable for competition.  USGA handicaps are required with 36 being the maximum handicap allowed.  All participants will receive a pair of the new Foot-Joy Project M Golf Shoes as this year's tournament favor.

2012 Legacy Cup

Picking up from a lost year last year, the Legacy Cup encompasses what this club is all about, family.  Two-Person teams formed by father-daughter, father-son, and even brother-brother combinations competed in a two day event.  Day one called for the best ball of the two person teams followed by day two's chapman scotch format.  The field was composed of only eight teams, so get a loved one and come and spend some time with us next year!!

2012 Old Baldy Cup

This year we had 19 teams comprised of four participants vie for the 2012 Old Baldy Cup.  This marque event in our calendar is always looked forward to for everyone around the club.  The weather couldn't have been more perfect, and our course conditions were spectacular thanks to Trent, Kyle, and their crew's hard work leading up to the tournament.  The two days of competition call for one net best ball on the par 3's, two best balls on the par 4's, and three best balls on the par 5's on Friday for a par of 152 and opposite on Saturday with a par of 136.  Day one leaders were Bill Hobbs group from Oklahoma in with a 139, but waiting just behind them was the team of Gallagher/Schalk coming in with a mind numbing 119 on Saturday to win going away.  Gallagher/Schalk and Mr. Hobbs team also finished first and second respectively in the always popular shoot-out. Spring Invitational June 14th - 16th

The Spring Invitational is Old Baldy Club's Men's Invitational and was contested June 14-16 in Saratoga. Golfers competed in flights according to age.

Overall Low Gross winner for the tournament was Brian Davis from the Freshman Flight. 2nd Low Gross was Rod Waeckerlin also from the Freshman Flight.

Two Man Match Play Championship June 24-26

The Two Man Match Play Tournament held June 24-26 gains more popularity each year.  Eighteen teams were entered in this year's tournament competing in three flights of six teams.  Tournament winners were determined by a Shoot Out held after the final round on Wednesday afternoon.  Teams from Old Baldy Club making their way into the Shoot-Out were:

This year's Shoot Out was contested over five hole concluding on Hole #6 where Linn Bealke and Tom Bitting beat Chuck Fulton and Joe DiPonti for the Championship.  Third Place Winners were Erik Nelson and John Portillo.

EweTourn - June 20 - 22, 2012

Old Baldy Club's Ladies Invitational, the "Ewe Tourn", was held June 20-22.  The ladies competed in this Eclectic Tournament held in four flights.  Members of Old Baldy Club supported this tournament very well as indicated from this picture.  Wednesday evening was the Opening Cocktail Party and dinner hosted by Dixie and Tom Arthur.  Thursday after their tournament round was completed teams competed in an Optional Team Shoot-Out for the first time this year.  Twenty-six of the two lady teams enjoyed the afternoon with the team of Cady Purcell and Beth Miller from Cheyenne Country Club winning the competition.  Dinner that evening was at the Platte River Cook-Out.  A shotgun start at 9:00 a.m. Friday morning concluded the tournament.  Awards were presented to the winners Friday evening at a Cocktail Party in the Eagle's Nest followed by dinner in the Main Dining Room.

Ellie Dana was one of the winners of the Closest to the Pin Contest during Thursday's Round.

2nd Low Net Winners represented from Old Baldy Club were Judi Newmand and her guest, Mary Berlin, from First Flight - Serda Tibbs and her guest, Sallye Dunlap, from Third Flight - Barbara Wright and Anita West from Fourth Flight.

Members Week 2011

Every year the Club hosts an entire week dedicated especially to the members that make this place so special.  Amongst the array of meetings, dinners, and appreciation party, member's week also give us a chance to host what amounts to our club championship of sorts.  There isn't any other tournament we host where both men and women compete in flighted match play, which is the general measure of a club champion.  This tournament strikes the perfect balance of competition and laid back, fun golf.  For a two day tournament such as this we flight both men and women into four person flights with two matches per flight.  The winners of those two matches played on Saturday, the 27th, to determine the overall winner.  The less fortunate people from Friday, got entered into a two person "Texas Shamble" consolation round.  Texas Shamble is where both people tee off, take the best drive of the two, and play thier own ball in from that point with 80% of their handicap. To the winners, we tossed out some bottles of wine and golf balls, it was a great time for everyone, and without further adieu, here are the folks who took home some vino.

2011 Bucks & Does

August already! You start stringing these absolutely perfect days we have had together and you lose track of time.  It seems like just yesterday we opened, but in reality yesterday was the final round of the 2011 Bucks & Does.  The tournament was a huge success with 11 teams comprised primarily of a member couple hosting a guest couple in a two day format.  The first day the two men from the team go out and put together their best ball of the twosome while paired with the men from another team, the women go out it in a similiar fashion. On the second day the two couples rejoin eachother and put together their two net best balls of the foursome. To add to the tournament a little bit we also throw in a shoot-out on Friday afternoon which every team competed in.  All in all it was a really fun tournament both for the members and the staff as well.  Here are a few photos to fill you in on the results of our weekend.

Our shoot-out winners, Mr. Bailey, Mrs. Dana, with Mr. & Mrs. Cortney.  They defeated the Faith/Morgan team out of Boulder. On top of that heafty envelope for winning the shoot-out, this team also finished for third in the overall tournament, very well played! 

The happy couple of Mr. & Mrs. Tibbs hosted the Carlsons from Gulf Shores Alabama this week.  The Tibbs Carlson team was good enough for second place in the overall tournament.

And here are our overall champions, team Durbano/Cutrubus.  This Ogden connection was tough to beat from the first hole on.  We think Mr. Durbano is really liking those new found gold tees. 

1st Annual Sling & Swing

In an effort to incorporate two of the members favorite aspects of Old Baldy, golfing and fishing, the tournament commitee has devised a tournament to do just that in what we hope is the first of many Sling & Swing golfishing tournament.  In a two day tournament 24 lucky participants, in two man teams, enjoy two half day fishing floats along with 36-holes of golf.  Fishing will be scored by inches caught, added to the golfs stableford point par system, who ever has the most points after two days....WINS! We have it set up for an Overall Winner for our grand champion, with consolation prizes for best fishing team, and top three golfing teams.  Both the Golf Shop and the Tackle Shop are really pumped about this, we think it could be one of the clubs premier events in the future.  So please get ahold of the golf shop, 307-326-3924 and take to Roger, Vicki, or Ray about signing up.  Like we said, space is limited, so call soon!!

2011 Old Baldy Cup

Every club has their one BIG BIG tournament of the year, for Old Baldy it has to be the OBC Cup.  Members captain teams of four, some all members and others the captain and three guests, in a two day best ball event.  On Friday the 15th the teams tried to put together their best 3 balls on the par 5's, 2 best balls on par 4's, and 1 best ball on the par 3's for a par of 152. Flip it on it's head on Saturday for what proves to be the harder day.  3 best balls on the par 3's, 2 best balls on the par 4's, and 1 best ball on the par 5's.  With 80% of handicap given, not alot of guys get strokes on the par 3's, so the second day is alot harder day to score, but don't tell that to the Tibbs boys.  In it from the start, the team from Franklin Louisiana was only a few strokes off the lead the first day, then came in with an untouchable 122, almost unheard of.

Almost as coveted as etching your name in the OBC Cup is taking home the bragging rights of OBC Cup Shoot-Out Champs.  We run this as a seperate optional event, 13 out of our 18 teams entered this year to try and make a dash for some cash.  Roger administered one Shoot-Out with 7 teams, Ray took one with 6 teams, the winners of each of those two mini Shoot-Outs met on the first hole to decide our winner.  Mr. Linn Bealke's team from St. Louis met head to head with the bulldozer team from Franklin Louisiana, the Tibbs team.  Continuing their dominance, the Tibbs boys came out victorious to become back-to-back Shoot-Out champions, having won it in 2010 as well.  Tournament went great, course looked fantastic, players had fun, the staff had a blast seeing all of our favorites, and we hope to see you all again next year!!

Tournament Season in Full Swing

    Summer has finally decided to visit us here at the Old Baldy Club, and just in time for two of our first tournaments, the Ewe Tourn and the Two Man Match Play.  Both of these tournaments have unique formats, and went over extremely well with both fields.  So here is a little bit of a re-cap of both tournaments, and some photos to go with it. 

The Ewe Tourn

The Ewe Tourn is our annual ladies member/guest where the women send the men packing and  form two lady teams to compete in a two day net & gross eclectic tournament. In our eclectic format we have the women take their best scores on each individual hole, both net and gross, over a two day period.  At the conclusion of the two days you combine your best hole scores to form both your eclectic net best ball and your eclectic gross best ball.  Prizes are awarded on a net and gross basis in each flight, along with overall winners.

This tournament was a huge success and we hope to see everyone, and more, back next year!

Two Man Match Play

What could be our most under-rated tournament of the year, the Two Man Match Play provides all the excitement of our bigger tournaments, but with more intimate field.  Fifteen two man teams comprised our thirty man field, with three flights of five teams. After playing five, nine hole matches worth ten points per match, the top two point getters and ties in each flight got entered into the always popular shoot-out.  This is where we take 6 teams, top two teams in each of the three flights, and and "shoot them out" on the course to play a one team elimination per hole starting on #10 to determine our winner. After hole #13 only two teams remained, with #14 determining our winner. The only problem was both teams were tied after #14, so they decided to play #15 to crown our champ instead of the customary chip off to break the tie. You don't see that kind of stuff too often, it was alot of fun out there.  Here are some pics to show you what we're talking about.

These guys fought to the finish to stay in contention for the win, barely missing a 10 foot putt for the win on #15. To the righ are our 2011 Two Man Match Play Champions, Mr. Stu Nickell and Mr. Greg Rouse from Cherry Creek Country Club in Denver.   Congratulations to our winners, and we hope to see you all out again next year.
